INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
August 12th 2020

The United Nations’ (UN) International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12 each year to recognize efforts of the world’s youth in enhancing global society. It also aims to promote ways to engage them in becoming more actively involved in making positive contributions to their communities.

For us @Don's Creation, we decided to tag it youth against rape and attending a seminar organized by Lions Club International and we were educated by Osakpolor Emwinromwankhoe on RAPE.

Research has shown that Africa has the highest number of rape cases around the world.

Rape is an unlawful sexual intercourse or any other penetration into the vagina, anus or mouth etc without the consent of the victim.

Clasification of Rape
1. Date rape (date on first date)
2. Anger rape (after many appeals from a guy to a lady and her disapproval, he angrily set her up and rape her)
3. Spousal rape 
4. War rape
5. Gang rape
6. Statutory rape 
7. Elderly rape.
8. Rape of children
9. Rape by deception (drugged and rapped)

Effects of rape
1. On the Victims
   a. Physical effects
       -bleeding
       -bruises and injuries
       -soreness
       -difficulty walking
       -broken or dislocated bones
       -HIV or other diseases
       -unwanted pregnancy
       
   b. Psychological Effects
      -disassociation
      -Constant fear
      -feeling of guilt 
      -reoccuring nightmare. 
      -suicidal thought
      -hatred for the opposite sex
      -marital issues

Reasons for rape issues in Nigeria
 1.Trust issues
 2.Fear of stigmatization
 3.Fear of revictimization 
 4.Cultural barrier
 5.Lack of confidence in security personnel
 6.Corruption of the judiciary
 7.Poor health care system

Preventive Measures
STOPS
S - promote SOCIAL norms
T - TEACH skills to prevent sexual violence
O - provide OPPORTUNITIES to empower victims 
P - health create PROTECTED environment for them
S - SUPPORT victims.
